It’s fair to wish for a feature film that accurately captures the narratives of contemporary electronic music culture. Sadly, Netflix’s new original film ‘XOXO’ did not quite accomplish the mission, despite having a few funny moments thrown in here and there.

Instead of mindlessly bashing the film, though, we’ve put together a list of video content that will do a bit of a better job of painting the picture of dance music’s many different shades around the world.

Above & Beyond’s Little Something Aftermovie:

When you think about specific causes being helped by dance music, there are plenty of charities in your local area that may come to mind. The beautiful thing about Above & Beyond’s special show at Wembley Arena is that the funds raised from the show went to help a cause that was championed by Jono Grant’s late sister Charlotte. The sold out concert raised more than £222,000 ($291,433.83) for the Little Something charitable fund, set up in Charlotte’s memory, to support pregnant women and mothers with perinatal mental health difficulties. The seven-minute video captures the community aspect that dance music creates in a really nice way.

Insomniac Presents Imagine Nation:

You see some great stages at Insomniac festivals, but do you ever meet the hilarious people who put it all together? Insomniac’s Imagine Nation series does well to highlight five stage designers who use found materials to create their structures.

Though our pick from Insomniac could have easily been Under The Electric Sky, that would have been too easy. We wanted to highlight the same documentary-style approach the team took, but in relation to the people behind the scenes. Here’s episode 7 above, but we highly recommend starting from the beginning.

THUMP’s Sub. Culture Cuba:

If you’re interested in something more south of the border, THUMP just posted the last episode of their three part series Sub. Culture Cuba, which explores the journey that dance musit took to become more prevalent and helped to unite communities in that country.

Porter Robinson Worlds Live:

A great source to discover the life of the new Porter Robinson behind the scenes, Worlds Live Tour is a four-part series that follows the artist and fleshes out his thought process when creating the new and innovative sound he’s become known for. It has its quirks as well, and the editing bestows the same whimsical vibes that his shows do.

Late Night Philosophy with Julie Adenuga:

Another great selection from THUMP, Late Night Philosophy is a new series in which asks overly deep questions to clubbers who just finished a night out. Beats 1 personality Julie Adenuga’s first go around was to clubbers in Essex if there was life after death. The result, as you can imagine, was hilarious.
