The Grammy foundation had the rare opportunity to sit down with Diplo for an extended amount of time to talk music and the culture around where he threw parties. Many topics came to the surface in this 20 minute talk including the producer’s time in Philadelphia in which he took advantage of all of the creative opportunities available to him, the fact that he actually wanted to do documentaries when he got to college, and the topic of the hour: Dance Musics place in pop culture.

“Some of these [artists] are great that are part of [dance music] and make great music but for the most part you already see that it’s in decline. . . . There hasn’t been a dance song on the radio except Calvin Harris and Rihanna this whole year. I think people have moved on. They’ve moved on to hip-hop again . . .”
