Ruby Rose is the first person to step in the digital booth for Diplo’s BBC Radio 1 show, but she’s a different guest than those who stop by on a regular basis. Rose is a seasoned DJ but she is known to the world for her strong acting in Orange is the New Black and her voice as an activists for the things that matter in the world.
Her strength in the dance music spectrum comes from two factors: a trained ear to the progression of a mix, and a diverse yet specific taste in beats that move a club. Both factors are evidenced in the bouncy beginnings of the hour with tracks from Claptone and Nora en Pure traveling slowly but surely into creative peak time tracks from Jauz and Chris Lake. Stepping into the world of dance music hasn’t been easy for her because of the many assumptions people create about her sincerity to the music, but take Diplo’s word for it: Rose is a talented tastemaker.
