Pop legend Prince has been found dead at his home in suburban Minneapolis, his publicist confirmed to The Associated Press. He was 57.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.

Prince was a singer-songwriter whose influence extended not only across the world of music, but fashion, movies and helped shaped the taste of the 1980s MTV generation. It was the ’80s that witnessed a prolific outpouring of albums and singles from the performer whose sound was a hybrid of pop, rock and funk, most often accompanied by blatantly sexual lyrics.

Editors Note: As a fan who grew up listening to Prince from the age of two this hits me really hard. He was one of the greatest musicians to ever touch the stage. Prince influenced so many artists across the world just like Michael Jackson and left a huge impact on all of us. Thank you, Prince for giving us countless albums over the last few decades. We’ll miss you…
