Tiësto’s words carry a lot of weight in the industry because of his accomplishments, having rose to stardom, creating his own label, and headlines the world’s biggest festivals for several years now. He and inthemix had a lengthy chat about a range of topics from What DJs inspire him now to the difference between playing a tour and having a residency. The most interesting part of the chat came near the middle; when asked about his ClubLife series’ purpose in moving dance music back to clubs, he talked about his thoughts on the scene itself:

InTheMix: Your Clublife series is meant to be a return to the club — do you think dance has moved too much into the pop world?

Tiësto: The Clublife series is definitely meant to be played in the clubs, I think some people in the dance music scene move too much into the pop world. I think it’s time to go back to the basics and just release great, banger tracks. Because that’s what it’s all about, when you play at a festival or you play in a club, that’s what people like to hear and that’s what I like to play just great dance music!

The definition of the word “Pop” may need to be clarified for fans who question Tiësto’s own collaborations, especially his new track with Gucci Mane, but overall we agree that dance music is best when there are more beats involved.
