Ultra is undoubtedly a cornerstone of Dance Music culture in the U.S. The 3-day weekender’s history is one to look back on now more than ever, as this March marks the 20th anniversary of the festival.

On a special “20 years of Ultra” webpage, several highlights of the festival were displayed, starting with the 1999 debut of the festival in which ravers partied in the sand, equipped with parachute pants and old-school LED toys. The original flyer included some legendary names including Armand Van Helden, LTJ Bukem, Rabbit on the Moon, George Acosta, and Josh Wink. The festival also highlighted the Carl Cox Arena’s history, which has lived for more than a decade on its own. Several video highlights reveal the underground vibes that filled the big arena. Several other highlights including Deadmau5’s three-set weekend, Above & Beyond DJs Backwards in the Pouring Rain and the controversial Madonna appearance at Avicii’s set in 2012 can all be found on 20YearsOfUltra.com.
