In a mission to provide a more accurate chart of artists the dance music world loves, Billboard stepped up to provide their own top 100 polls. Instead of simply compiling fan votes, the list will include several pieces of objective data including residencies, festival bookings, track and album sales, and more. Billboard Editor and chief Matt Medved shared these thoughts on the poll:

Billboard is proud to announce the Billboard Dance 100, a comprehensive and credible ranking of the world’s top 100 dance/electronic music artists. Compiled by our editorial and charts departments, the Billboard Dance 100 artist rankings will be informed by charts statistics (streaming, track sales, album sales, and radio airplay), touring data (show capacities, festival bookings, and residencies), and a fan-voted poll to provide a holistic snapshot of the genre’s diverse talents.

The final list will be revealed March 21-22, during Miami Music Week 2018. This new franchise comes as Billboard’s largest expansion into the electronic music space since launching the Billboard Dance vertical in 2015.

Hopefully, we see a different layout of recognition than the top 100 DJ poll; thanks to this new system, DJs will also be dissuaded from sleazy tactics like iPad driven voting solicitation and paid ads on social media. We hope to see some good, fair campaigning for a realistic list of artists to both praise and discover.
