On the top of Ultra attendees, the to-do list is the legendary Carl Cox arena: a megastructure that houses the globetrotting techno minister and several of his favorite DJs and producers. As the second decade of his festival conquest begins, he has a special assortment of names for Bayfront Park this year: Eats Everything, ANNA, Richie Hawtin, Tale of Us and a slew of Back to Back sets from some of the genres biggest heavyweights.

Cox’s journey to hosting his own stage started with a thunderous 90 minute set at the 2001 edition of the festival. From there, he formed a powerful relationship with festival organizers who were interested in his style of music, following him to events to understand the value it would bring to ultra. In 2020, the appeal is unmistakable. “I should be trying to relax and put my feet up, and [instead] I’m putting my foot on the gas,” he tells Billboard. “It’s coming back to the original home and with that, everybody seems to be super, super happy. I can’t just do two days, I have to do three, and nail down that this is what we do and this is why we do it because we love it. If we didn’t love it, we wouldn’t do it.”
