Darude has strived to have a healthy career and be seen for more than “Sandstorm,” the song he’s too often associated with due to memes, basketball games, etc. In some cases he has succeeded, but at Twitch con…not so much.

Sadly, a backlash followed his refusal to play Sandstorm, with people feeling cheated out of their $57 tickets because the act they came to see did not pander to their desires. It should go without saying how ridiculous it is to demand a DJ play anything, especially a song the original artist knows is one of the most overplayed songs of dance music’s generation.
