It’s understandable to have a security team and sniffer dogs at huge music festivals, but it doesn’t seem right for that much security at a festival with only 500 attendees. Off the coast of Australia, hundreds of people gathered to attend the first Rose Quartz Music ad Arts Festival located at a nature lodge in the south-western corner of Tasmania. Tassie Police raided the festival with sniffer dogs that put attendees on their toes. People have said it was an irresponsible sniffer-dog operation targeting a festival so small of only 500 festival-goers. The dogs could be seen around the dance floor, during the night at the campsite, searching cars, and even during a set on stage. One attendee told InTheMix,

“People were being safe and looking out for each other, until the dog squad arrived and people ate their drugs in a panic, and felt uncomfortable and unsafe. It was irresponsible of the police and they should have known better.”

All of this process led to only five arrests for “minor drug matters” but the Tasmanian police praised the organizers for an incident-free festival. Security makes a festival safe but when a festival is so small, and security is so big, it’s hard to enjoy oneself without being a little paranoid.
