We have an unfortunate update for you, Miami fans! Ultra Music Festival has been “postponed” – possibly for a full year.

The three-day music festival in Miami was set to happen in two weeks – March 20-22, 2020. This morning, we found out that Miami officials were requesting to postpone the festival due to the fear of spreading the coronavirus. The virus has caused cancellations of other music events internationally but has not touched down in Florida yet.

In preparation, Ultra had released a statement that it was putting in extra measures for the safety of its festival-goers and keeping an eye on the situation. Miami, treating it as a possible emergency, wanted to postpone.

The Mayor, City Manager, and Commissioner met this morning with Ultra representatives to discuss this request. An announcement was scheduled to be made at 9am est on Friday, March 6th. However, word got out. The Miami Herald reported that it has been decided to postpone the festival, for possibly a full year. City officials have yet to announce details of the change because attorneys are ironing out the legal issues tied to the decision, including the length of the delay.

The Commissioner told the Herald that not only is Ultra postponed, but they would likely look to postpone other major city events, such as the Calle Ocho Festival, that Miami is hosting in March.

This decision effectively cancels Ultra Music Festival for 2020, as it seemed they looking to postpone it until 2021. A formal announcement will still be made on Friday, after the city’s legal team and Ultra have been able to draft a new agreement.
