Every now and then you hear an epic mix that challenges your ideas of a given genre. The below two-minute clip is not one of those mixes. Posted by a house DJ on Twitter, the mix reflects a hilarious trope in Trap sets…the consistent buildups that almost drop, but then just go into another buildup. The continuous takeouts include popular drops like Excision’s Throwing elbows dropping one kick, then repeating again…and again…until the mix finally decides on a trapped out romantic CD commercial worth the weakest kick drum we may have ever heard. We got some solid laughs from it: while some of these fake-outs are actually pretty clever, an overuse of them can just piss off a crowd of people. We suggest limiting the technique to twice to four times per set.
