Following the release of new critically acclaimed Starboy album, Spotify has just announced that The Weeknd is now officially the new record holder for most streams on the service in one single day. “We can confirm that as of Nov. 26, The Weeknd is now the artist with the most streams on Spotify in a single day,” Monte Lipman, Chairman & Co-Founder of Republic Records said in a press release. Spotify’s Global Head of Creator Services Troy Carter was also excited about the historic moment saying, “we’re proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album. We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future.” The previous record holder was Justin Bieber, who was streamed 36 million times on November 13, 2015. Meanwhile, Drake still holds the record for the most streamed song ever with “One Dance.”
