After Taylor Swift’s record was dethroned last week for most single-day streams by XXXTentacion, it now appears like Drake is facing the same fate as he’s just been uncrowned as once the most streamed artist in the world on Spotify. Today, Colombian reggaeton superstar J. Balvin has officially overtaken the number top spot as Spotify’s number one streaming artist in the world according to reports. This is due large in part to the success of his recent Vibras album which helped propel the Latin star to over 48 million monthly listeners on Spotify. In addition, the album also housed smash hits like “X” with Nicky Jam which is nearing one billion streams on YouTube and “Mi Gente” which not only saw Beyoncé hopping on the remix – but also becoming the first Latin song ever to reach number one on Spotify’s Global 50 chart last year.

“All I can say is thank you, thank you,” the reggaeton star said in an official statement. “I’m so grateful and proud to be the most heard artist in the world on Spotify. It’s bigger than J. Balvin, it’s the movement and it’s in Spanish. We are proving that Latinos have the power to connect with an audience on a global level without having to leave our identity behind. This is an achievement for the entire Latino community. I’m so grateful to Spotify for the enormous support to the reggaeton movement.”
