Don’t you love lists? …Well you love them until they don’t have your favorite track on it, right? Knowing that there will never truly be an objective ranking system for these things, LA Weekly posts a list of 20 tracks that they’ve found had a profound effect on dance music.

Plenty of the older classics from Chemical Brothers’ Block Rockin Beats to Blue Monday from New Order made it onto the list, not to mention a certain Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites from Skrillex and Get Lucky from Daft Punk. There are plenty missing from the list, but documenting the rise of aggressive bass music, the hip-hop influences first making their way into electronic music, and the return of a loved band in a radically different styling makes this a good enough history lesson for those eager to learn.
