Berlin, Germany is the last place we’d expect to hear news like THIS from one of the city’s clubs, Liquid Sky, just completely banned the use of turntables and CDJs. Now at first, you may be righteously offended (as we were, admittedly), but it seems there’s a method to their madness. Instead of literally only allowing Traktor S4 DJ controllers or something, they’ve resolved to only allow completely and utterly unique ways of playing music according to their website statement:

“We are pleased to inform you that Liquid Sky Berlin does not represent ordinary DJ culture. Although the club means no disrespect to DJs, they are exclusively inviting those who utilize other formats, unique styles, different thinking, alternative tastes, and emerging uses of both newer and older technology.”

The website goes on to list the different ways in which DJs can play innovative sets:

“you dj with “my-first-sony” tapeplayers?
you are welcome!
you dj with short wave radios?
you are welcome!
you dj with Nintendo game boys & playstation trackers?
you are welcome!
you dj with computers, ipads, mobile phones and raspberry pi or even hacked home-fitness-trainers?
you are welcome!
you are an experimental modular synth artist and/ or use circuit bent noisetoys?”

This Friday, the club plans to host Ninja Tune duo Coldcut. Known for creating unique audiovisual experiences, this is the pair of DJs to help kick off the new era of the club.
