Every year, Forbes magazine publishes its infamous 30 under 30 list. The American list is comprised of 600 extraordinary individuals. There are 20 categories, and each has 30 people under 30 years old who stand out in that category. The Forbes list is regarded by Forbes itself as:

A wake-up call to cynics who think they have seen it all. The young, creative and bold minds on this year’s #ForbesUnder30 list are proof positive that the future will be new, exciting and profoundly different

Judging every 30 under 30 category is a “blue-ribbon panel of experts in their field.” This year’s music judges were 21 Savage, Adriana Arce, The Chainsmokers, and Mickey Shiloh. They are all alumni of the coveted 30 under 30 list. The Chainsmokers, who were on the Forbes announcement video cover on Twitter, were on the 30 under 30 list in 2017, and were referred to by Forbes as “spinmasters.”

This year, Illenium ranks in the music category as one of the 30. He is joined there with the likes of artists such as Lil Nas X, Jon Bellion, Tyler, The Creator, and Megan Thee Stallion.
