Ye, who was once Kanye West, has been stirring up a lot of news lately. The artist was formally married to media personality Kim Kardashian. The former couple had four children together. Kardashian filed for divorce on February 19, 2021.
The public has watched Ye relentlessly harass Kim, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson, and others since the split. It has risen to a level of concern, with many drawing similarities to his behavior and that of an abusive partner. A judge proclaimed her legally single on March 2, 2022, after she filed to quicken the process.
Ye’s Instagram account was recently suspended for violating its policies on hate speech, bullying, and harassment. repeated racial slurs appeared in reference to The Daily Show.
The rapper is set to headline Coachella Arts and Music Festival this April, and fans are taking issue with it. A petition was started on Change.org requesting his removal from the lineup. The petition has gained over 27,000 signatures.
Caramello Marie started the petition, stating,
We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate, and hurt Kim, Pete, and others for over a year now. No one seems to want to stand up to him, and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well. Most recently, he has been threatening actual bodily harm on others. This is ridiculous that he is allowed to freely do this. Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform.
At 35,000 signatures, it becomes one of the top signed petitions on Change.org. Whether or not Goldenvoice is going to do anything about this remains to be seen.
