Newer but widely popular nightclub Printworks is closing its doors after a final decision by the Southwark Council on July 11th. The owners of the property British Land submitted a proposal to develop the space into an office complex. While the move may help to accommodate the influx of people who work remotely, it means the end of space that several folks both in and far beyond London regard as a legendary venue.

Printworks quickly rose to fame in South London’s music scene in the 4 years it hosted 5000+attendees night after night. It hosted a wide roster of artists including. The 119,000 sq ft space includes Dombresky, Bicep, The Martinez Brothers, Tinlicker, Eats Everything, Wilkinson, Kream, and Anjunadeep label bosses James Grant and Jody Wisternoff among several others.

Those who saw The Batman, this past March saw Printworks featured in the film as the “Iceberg Lounge”, which served as the home base for the movie villain the Penguin. For all clubbers, it was an amazing feeling seeing such a legendary venue featured in a box office hit alongside an iconic superhero such as Batman. The club scene in The Batman still replays in our heads over and over with Kevin Saunderson and Patrick Topping’s track “Frisk” ringing our eardrums. What a moment.

While it’s sad to see the narrow, yet vast beauty of this space leave after such a short time, the club’s Twitter account ensured us that their plan to throw events elsewhere is all but certain:

Check out a behind-the-scenes look from DJ Mag on the production of the venue below and stay tuned for a story on IG documenting some of our favorite moments from the venue.
