Every week, Space Yacht takes demos from aspiring producersā¦but this week viewers saw a different notification message: “We Demand Justice.ā The hosts replaced their usual show with the contact information for the Mayor, City Attorney, and Police chief of Kenosha, Wisconsin. They said that they couldnāt continue their show with the knowledge of Jacob Blakeās shooting at the hands of authorities.
After the tragic killings of Ahmad Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, the music industry started a campaign to highlight black voices and post a black square in solidarity. Most went above and beyond this gesture to provide resources for funding helpful civil rights organizations. Unfortunately, the outcries around the world have not been enough to stop the trend of Police brutality against Black people.
Space Yacht made a powerful statement by stopping proceedings of their own accord, and to be honest, we hope itās the beginning of a string of independent channels who decide to make that move themselves.
