Today global online search giant Google has announced its annual year in search list that unveils the most popular names and events searched in 2018. In the category of electronic dance music Armin van Buuren, the Grammy-nominated DJ and producer, has been ranked one of the top 5 artists that people searched on Google this year. The entire list consists (in chronologic order) Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Fatboy Slim, Benny Benassi, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Laidback Luke, Steve Angello and Marshmello.

According to Google, “Swedish House Mafia” was the top trending electronic music artist of 2018. It has been a journey for everyone since they came back together for Ultra Music Festival in Miami this past March 2018. There have been hints of shows with posters this past year with multiple cities already announced for a show, keeping hope alive of a massive reunion tour so we could only imagine how many fans were Googling SHM’s 2019 reunion tour rumors throughout the year. We are not surprised by this result whatsoever.

The search engine’s Year In Search review has also revealed Avicii as the #2 most searched topic overall on Google, and the #1 searched name related to loss. Clearly, Avicii’s death in April of this year had a profound impact on his fans. And, like many of us, we rushed to Google when we first heard, unable to believe that it was really true.
